Hands-on support through the VAC benefits process
270 West works with Canadian veterans and their families on disability claims, reviews and appeals, reassessments and ongoing support. We take on practical work throughout the process and help you make informed decisions about your claim.
One veteran found a way forward. Then he helped the next.
What started with veterans helping veterans continues to guide everything we do today. Our reach has grown, but our purpose has never changed.
After retiring from the Royal Canadian Navy, one of our founders began exploring the benefits available through Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) for injuries sustained during his military career.
As he learned the system, he began helping friends and fellow veterans do the same.
One veteran became another. Word spread. Another veteran joined him, then his brother. There was no grand plan to build a company — just a belief that what they had learned could make someone else’s journey easier.
From helping a few to supporting many.
As more veterans reached out, that informal support grew into something that needed a stronger foundation. Family members stepped in, learned the system in depth, and together built what would become 270 West.
From the beginning, the work was about more than paperwork.
Sometimes helping meant navigating a claim. Other times it meant connecting someone to health care, solving a practical problem, or simply figuring out what support was needed next.
That shaped a belief we still hold today: to truly support someone, you have to understand what they need — not just what form they need to complete.
More than paperwork. People who care.
Today, we bring together experienced people, health-care relationships and hands-on support to make a complicated journey clearer, more coordinated and more human.
Our approach remains grounded in the principles that inspired our founders: listen first, explain things clearly, treat every veteran with respect and stay involved throughout the journey.
We understand military life because veterans helped build this company. We also believe veterans are better supported when people work together — across health care, veteran organizations and the broader support community.
Our beginning still guides everything we do.
270 West may look very different today, but our purpose remains the same: helping veterans and their families access the benefits, care and support they have earned through service.
Because behind every claim is a person, a family and a life beyond military service.
Your service matters. Your story matters. And you deserve support every step of the way.
Experience built one veteran at a time
Today, that experience spans thousands of claims for more than 1,700 clients. Seeing different service histories, trades, health conditions and claim routes has given our team a deep working knowledge of the VAC process. It helps us ask better questions, recognize when information may need more attention and understand where research or relevant precedent may be useful.
We use that experience for one purpose: to make a complex process easier for the veteran and family in front of us.
How we put that experience to work
Experience matters, but how it is used matters just as much. Our approach is grounded in three commitments: understanding the veteran in front of us, taking an active role in the work and helping connect them with support beyond the claim when needed.
Veteran Understanding
Our roots are in a family of veterans, but we do not assume that every veteran has the same experience. We listen to your service history, your health concerns and what matters to you before discussing a path forward. We explain the process without rushing you or asking you to fit your story into a standard script.
Active Involvement
We do more than tell you which forms to complete. We help gather and organize relevant information, prepare your claim with you, review it together and support you through filing. If VAC asks for more information, we help you respond. You stay informed, ask questions, approve your submission and we help you file what goes forward in your name.
Connected Support
A claim can involve more than paperwork. Where it helps, we connect you with medical professionals, community resources and practical support for you or your family. We also help you make sense of decisions and consider what support may be useful afterward.

Frequently asked questions
Is 270 West part of Veterans Affairs Canada?
No. We are independent of VAC. The company grew from veterans helping other veterans understand and navigate the benefits process. Today we work collaboratively within that process, while VAC independently makes decisions on benefits and eligibility.
Will I still make decisions about my claim?
Yes. We take on preparation, organization and follow-up, but it remains your claim. We review the information with you, and you decide what will go to VAC. When it is ready, we help you file it.
Can my family or caregiver be involved?
Yes, if you want them involved. Partners, family members and caregivers can play an important role in helping you manage appointments, information and decisions.
Does 270 West charge for all its support?
Conversations with our team are always free. If you choose to work with us on a claim, our fee is 10% on a successful claim. The fee reflects the full support we provide throughout the work. You only pay if the claim is successful, and we explain the fee and terms before you decide to proceed.
Count on having someone in your corner
Tell us about your situation in a free conversation. We will listen, explain where we may be able to help and give you room to decide what comes next.
