Ongoing support for veterans, families and caregivers
Support continues beyond the application and the decision.
We help you understand VAC decisions, connect with medical and community resources, and navigate other supports that may become relevant for you or your family over time.
When the next VAC step comes, we are there with you
A new question can arise while you wait for a decision, after a claim is settled or when your family’s needs change.
“I got my decision letter. What does it mean?”
We go through the letter with you, explain what VAC decided and talk about what may come next.
“I need help finding a health-care provider.”
We connect you with a professional suited to the assessment or treatment you need and coordinate the next step where we can.
“Getting to appointments is difficult.”
We help coordinate transportation to medical appointments and assessments, so logistics do not slow your claim down.
“My partner is a veteran, and I am trying to help.”
We can explain general steps to family members. With the veteran’s permission, we help work through the details of their situation together.
“I need to understand the Caregiver Recognition Benefit.”
We help the veteran and their caregiver understand the program and prepare their parts of the application if they decide to apply.
“I am not sure who to contact at VAC.”
We help you work out whom to ask and prepare your questions. With the appropriate authorization, we can obtain information from VAC about your account and help you understand it.
How we provide ongoing support for veterans
The help you need may change over time. We focus on the question or task in front of you and are available when another one arises.
The work between the milestones matters too
Much of the complexity sits between the major stages of a claim: finding the right health-care professional, arranging transportation, understanding a letter, preparing a question for VAC or working out what should happen next.
That practical support is an important part of how we work.
Working with us – what it is like to have someone in your corner
Our ongoing support for veterans means you always have someone who can help you make sense of letters, appointments or decisions.
Questions about ongoing support for veterans and families
Can I contact you after VAC has decided my claim?
Yes. We can help you understand the decision letter, look at relevant programs and work through the next practical steps. If you disagree with the decision, we can also help you understand the review and appeal processes.
Can my spouse or another family member speak with you?
Yes. Our support for veterans includes explaining general information to family members. To discuss a veteran’s personal case or act on their behalf, we first confirm the veteran’s permission and any authorization needed.
Can 270 West get information from VAC about my account?
Yes. With the appropriate authorization, 270 West can obtain information from VAC about your account and help you understand it. We can help you prepare questions or information you may need to provide, but we do not relay information to VAC on your behalf.
Who applies for the Caregiver Recognition Benefit?
The veteran applies and designates an informal caregiver. Both the veteran and caregiver complete and sign their respective parts of the application. We can help you understand the steps and what information may be needed.
