Ongoing support for veterans, families and caregivers

Support continues beyond the application and the decision.

We help you understand VAC decisions, connect with medical and community resources, and navigate other supports that may become relevant for you or your family over time.

Situations

When the next VAC step comes, we are there with you

A new question can arise while you wait for a decision, after a claim is settled or when your family’s needs change.

Situation 01

“I got my decision letter. What does it mean?”

We go through the letter with you, explain what VAC decided and talk about what may come next.

Situation 02

“I need help finding a health-care provider.”

We connect you with a professional suited to the assessment or treatment you need and coordinate the next step where we can.

Situation 03

“Getting to appointments is difficult.”

We help coordinate transportation to medical appointments and assessments, so logistics do not slow your claim down.

Situation 04

“My partner is a veteran, and I am trying to help.”

We can explain general steps to family members. With the veteran’s permission, we help work through the details of their situation together.

Situation 05

“I need to understand the Caregiver Recognition Benefit.”

We help the veteran and their caregiver understand the program and prepare their parts of the application if they decide to apply.

Situation 06

“I am not sure who to contact at VAC.”

We help you work out whom to ask and prepare your questions. With the appropriate authorization, we can obtain information from VAC about your account and help you understand it.

Our approach

How we provide ongoing support for veterans

The help you need may change over time. We focus on the question or task in front of you and are available when another one arises.

01
Decision letter walkthroughs
We explain VAC letters and program information in plain language, so you know what needs attention and what choices you have.
02
Connect you with health-care providers
We connect you with experienced medical professionals familiar with VAC assessments, treatment and documentation, and help coordinate appointments where appropriate.
03
Transportation coordination
We help arrange transport to medical and VAC appointments, which removes one more barrier.
04
Connections to external legal support
For issues outside 270 West’s services, such as overpayments or clawbacks, we can connect you with external lawyers who can provide legal advice.
05
Family, caregiver & authorized support
With your permission, we can include a spouse, family member, caregiver or person acting under a Power of Attorney in conversations and help them understand relevant VAC programs and next steps.
06
Check-ins between milestones
We schedule quick conversations with you to plan, decompress or decide what is next.
07
Community and practical support
Not every need is a VAC form. We can help connect veterans and families with relevant community resources, including housing, food support, mental health services and other practical guidance when needed.
Between the milestones

The work between the milestones matters too

Much of the complexity sits between the major stages of a claim: finding the right health-care professional, arranging transportation, understanding a letter, preparing a question for VAC or working out what should happen next.

That practical support is an important part of how we work.

How it feels

Working with us – what it is like to have someone in your corner

Our ongoing support for veterans means you always have someone who can help you make sense of letters, appointments or decisions.

Clarity
You understand what is happening
We explain decisions, program information and next steps in a language you can use.
Connected
The right help, at the right time
We connect you with the right support at the right time, including medical clinics and professionals in our network, relevant VAC programs, mental health supports and community resources.
Continuity
You can come back with new questions
Our involvement does not end when a claim is filed or VAC makes a decision. We also help veterans and families understand related VAC benefits, treatment programs, allowances and caregiver supports that may become relevant after a claim is decided.
270 West Consulting is independent and is not affiliated with Veterans Affairs Canada. VAC decides eligibility for its programs and benefits, but we can promise you will not face the process alone.
